I generally update a review only after a year. But every rule has exceptions. Evenmore, when they take your dining experience to a whole new level. In such a case, I think that an immediate review update is warranted. I visited Musashi for the 2nd time within a week for two reasons. One because in my opionion, as I have said before, they have the best Teppanyaki gig in town. Second, I truly desired to erase the memory of my previous hurried dining experience. And what an evening it was. When I walked in, I was seated at an empty Teppanyaki table even though there were other tables that could have occupied me. After being seated, I told the server that I was willing to wait till my table got filled up with other patrons. The server said they preferred not to, took my order of filet mignon and shrimp and began preparing to bring me the first course of miso soup. While I sat there, an elegant middle aged woman slowly approached me with a smile, poise and humility. She extended her hand and introduced herself as the owner. She said she was aware of my previous visit and sincerely apologized for the service I received less than a week ago. She continued to say that she had read my review, more than once, line by line and was sorry that I was not satisfied. Furthermore, my dinner for this visit would be on the house. Not only was I speechless (something that rarely happens to me) but also, truly blown away. After the soup came the salad and then the Chef, who as it transpired, would be cooking just for me. The meal courses were evenly spaced, not hurried at all, and my medium rare filet mignon was once again, superbly prepared. Service was exceptional. It takes courage to come forward and admit a lapse in dining hospitality. Musashi recognized their mistake, apologized and swiftly took steps to make sure it never repeats. The whole experience immediately catapulted into my culinary memory book. Bravo.
I was looking for a local Benihana to porter ranch but this was the closest I could find to my house. My daughter and I got the seafood plate that came with shrimp, lobster, and scallops. All were delicious and the chef was super friendly. They don't have a hibachi kids meal but I was able to split mine with my daughter
I do love going to Musashi! Not only does it remind me of my college days when the OG Musashi was on Tampa & Nordhoff, but Musashi's food is still consistantly good. The servers are very friendly and make you feel at home. It's teppan style, like Benihanas but without the noise and crowds. It's such a treat to have a dinner here!
Despite the mixed reviews, I had such a wonderful time with my girlfriends at Musashi. You can never go wrong with a hibachi grill. It's always a fun experience with delicious food. What more could you ask for? Our hibachi chef was incredibly entertaining, and the food was cooked to perfection. I usually switch between steak and shrimp, but if I'm extra hungry, I'll go for the combo meal. All the meals come with miso soup, salad, and rice. You can upgrade to fried rice, but I personally prefer the steamed rice with a bit of soy sauce. The fact that we were able to make reservations ahead of time was a huge plus. It made the experience even smoother and more enjoyable.
This place has been a favorite of our family for many years. Came here to celebrate our son's 34th birthday Food was as tasty as always. The big drawback for me was that when I asked for a gluten free menu they asked if I brought my own soy sauce. What? How hard can it be to have a bottle of gluten free soy sauce in stock? The " gluten free menu" had about 6 items on it. I did my best ordering food I hoped wouldn't cause me too many issues, but I know I will be hurting tomorrow.
I notice a lot of the negative reviews are coming from, uhh, shall we say, Not-Asian folks being Karens about their teppanyaki experience. (Leaving a bad review because wait staff aren't native English speakers? Because your kid "missed the onion volcano"? Really?) So, just to contextualize my review: I'm an Asian person who used to work in a sushi restaurant, who has relatives who used to own or work in sushi restaurants, leaving a review for solely the sushi bar portion of this restaurant: I am generally skeptical of teppanyaki/sushi combo restaurants because generally, the focus of such places really isn't the sushi. However, I was pleasantly surprised to see that the food coming from sushi bar side of the house was excellent. Everything our family ate here, from sashimi to nigirizushi to makizushi, was very good! The quality of the raw seafood here isn't the same as what you'd get in your more expensive, high-end sushi joints, but it is absolutely on par with popular, well-known places like Noshi Sushi in K-town, which is way better than anyone in their right mind should be expecting at a bland shopping center in Porter Ranch. Sashimi (hamachi): excellent, no notes. Nigiri (maguro, kanpachi, hotate, ikura, unagi, amaebi): all very good, thumbs up for the rice being pleasantly warm, nice touch having a smidge of yuzu koshō on the kanpachi, generous fish-to-rice ratio. Weakest links were amaebi and ikura; next time I would stick to just fish options. Maki: Dragon, rainbow, and blue crab hand rolls. I did not partake but the family said they were all excellent. The amount of blue crab stuffed into the hand roll was insane. Total for three people at sushi bar with tea and soft drinks: $187 before tip. This is because we went a little over-the-top with sashimi and specialty orders like amaebi; if you stick to the basics you could definitely fill three bellies for $150 or under.
Lot's of mixed reviews here. But my Family and I had a great dinner and did not have any complaints. Of course there was a bit of a wait, but only about 10 minutes on a Friday night, so I would say very reasonable. We did not go the Teppanyaki route, just the regular dinner side, where the Sushi bar is. The Teppanyaki side can be an hour wait at times. The restaurant itself has been around for many years, but does not look dated, clean, minimalist feel when it comes to decoration, but very nice. Our server was very nice and took care of us very well. Paced the food nicely and kept checking in with us to make sure we had what we needed. Now for the food, we got the 3 Musashi Bentos, 2 nabeyaki udon's and a combo bento with teriyaki chicken and shrimp and veggies tempura. We enjoyed it very much. The meals come with Miso soup, a salad with miso dressing, I love the dressing. The Musashi bento is what I had, it has 3 pieces of sashimi tuna, karage chicken, a piece of broiled salmon, a mix of shrimp and veggies tempura, a small egg roll and tamago. Quite a bit of food and I finished it all, it was so good. Next time we go, I think we will go the Teppanyaki side, it has been awhile since we had had Teppanyaki. Enjoy!
Birthday celebration dinner for my brother. I haven't been to Musashi's in many years. Even pre-pandemic. I used to frequent this location a lot for sushi but tonight was for hibachi. The menu seemed to not have changed but the prices definitely have. The hibachi entrées started at $34. I order the chicken & shrimp dinner. Which included soup, salad & a 3 pc. Shrimp appetizer. I did pay an extra $3 for fried rice. I didn't order any drinks or appetizers. Our chef, Jesus was excellent and very entertaining. My nephew was so excited about the entire cooking on display. Our server, Hana was also outstanding. We were a party of 11 and she was on top of everything we requested. She had a great smile and was so attentive to us. My meal was delicious and I ended up taking home leftovers. Great venue for a birthday dinner. Would recommend for a large family celebrations. Seating was tight at our table and the wooden chairs were not comfortable for me. Being plus size. I was not comfortable at all. I am sure anyone with a disability would be have some challenges. Will return soon for another celebration
I'm so happy we picked Musashi for family dinner! My daughter has never been to teppan and we all had so much fun! We had the best chef who made a Mickey out of rice, a volcano that was super impressive and multiple trains made out of onions. The food was delicious and flavorful. When we arrived we were seated right away and got our order taken immediately! We got the soup and salad very fast and they were delicious. The salad dressing is my favorite and the miso soup was hot and had lots of flavor. The show they do in front of you is so much fun and we will definitely be back. There is plenty of parking and there are a lot of tables inside!
